So my niece got married. I haven’t posted this news because my big brother wanted to surprise everyone as I hadn’t planned to come out, but with his zero-interest loan I’ve been able to make that happen. At the risk of going off on tangents and making no sense to the general theme of our blog, I thought I’d just better update y’all on what’s been happening since I last posted.
As of the 25th of September, we no longer live in Mindanao. Earthquake is safely in Iligan with L; despedidas have been had; we have bid goodbye to Cagayan de Oro. At this moment, I’m sitting on my dear friends’ futon on their farm (well, in the living room) in Sweethome, Oregon with one of their five very large cats in my lap while Chris is hard at work for one of his clients in Lexington, Kentucky, and we’re both due to fly back to Manila on the 9th of October. Not sure what will happen from there as there’ve been a couple of typhoons in the last few days and the weather might trap us in Manila while we’re there. Our hope was to traipse on up to Sagada and Banaue, but that’s looking pretty unlikely so we’ll more likely spend our time volunteering with the Department of Social Welfare if there’s room for a couple more pairs of hands in doing odd jobs dealing with all the mess they’ve got now.
This leads me to the point that this post really has no particular point…we’re both feeling a little in-between, I think…really hoping to keep this blog up and running from France, particularly as I really don’t want to lose sight of the reasons for starting it to begin with. The truth is that while we really end up all over the place, there is and has always been a very central theme inherent in the blog’s name: What if…? And then, of course, why not…? I suppose you could fill in those blanks with just about anything, but of course we’re hoping to make the most out of this vida loca and fill them with something…oh, let’s just say better – for us, for our surroundings, whatever. And truth be told, we suck at it quite a lot of the time, but knowing we’ve got this blog to report to just might keep us on track. So the scenery will be changing, but with a little luck the concepts will remain intact.
At any rate, I’m not sure how exciting or how often the posts will flow for the next couple of weeks, but I really want to thank you all for being with us on this journey…your comments, ideas, encouragement…it’s all just inexplicably priceless to us both. We hope to keep it interesting!
Oh, and as for the wedding, it was magnificent…magical…all the things I could have ever hoped my lovely niece’s wedding would be.
